What is the Surgical Skills Module?

This specialised module provides foundational and hands-on training in surgical procedures involving laboratory animals. It meets the EU Module 22 requirements and supports researchers in developing competence in pre-operative assessment, aseptic techniques, surgical methods, and post-operative care.

Is the theory course fully online?

Yes. The theory portion is available anytime and can be completed at your own pace.

The practical session is strongly recommended for anyone performing surgery. The theory component is a prerequisite.

Yes. You must have access to the Handbook of Laboratory Animal Management and Welfare and be familiar with chapters 9 & 10.
